It's party time pooches! Canine caterers are laying our classy spreads for pets that offer everything from cakes to gourmet quiches and pizzas.


Seriously, can anything be more gross, uncouth, and so terribly unrefined? Can anything be more insensitive in a society where children and adults scrummage through garbage to find rotten scraps of food to eat....

Be rich, but don't pretend the poor and the unfortunate don't exist....

Be rich but don't think it is your birthright to think of and treat the poor as if that was where they belonged, and you are where you belong....

There's a shelter...

for every living being in Calcutta...even if the shelter is a dilapidated autorickshaw for a stray dog...

I saw the strangest thing today...

strange but very nice...

The road that leads to our home from the main road in Tollygunge, at one point, passes a cemetery. From the road all one can see are trees and it has a very peaceful air about it, as a resting place should be. Today when we turned into this road, I saw many impromptu stalls selling flowers, incense, and pictures of Jesus and wondered what it was about....rows of stalls....and then it struck me - today is All Souls Day, and people were visiting their loved ones in their resting places...I guess they were decorating the tombs and praying....While those who have gone, never leave our hearts, I do believe this was a lovely gesture...

But I've not seen this anywhere - anywhere - it had to be in Cal!
